Unfortunately I am anticipating another Man of Steel syndrome where the trailer promises us a thematic dialectic and then throughs it out the window. This trailer reads like a direct continuation of the philosophy started in the MOS trailer, that was lost in the film: that Superman is essentially the new Christ and his appearance signals the opportunity for humanity's revision/turning to goodness.
I think that Superman as saviour/false god would be a fantastic idea to play with but doubt that the film actually does it. Though with Chris Terrio joining the script there is more hope that just being in David Goyer's hands.
Also there was an animated film released last year The Dark Knight Returns and part 2 deals with the Superman vs Batman (from Batman's POV). Batman is seen as a vigilante and Superman is contracted by the President to stop him. It appears here as though they are spinning Batman as the attacking force because of jealousy or madness. It feels like a shame to potentially reduce him to a villain status when a more interesting perspective would be that both heroes are correct.
But, I guess this is all speculation until the film actually comes out!
The fake trailer idea is a great one. I've made a couple of proof of concepts (utilising existing footage) and it really helped clarify not only the thematic territory but also the tone and atmosphere, which I think can very easily get lost in writing. It's definitely nudged me back on track before.
