Scott;

I'd never thought of Life of Brian, Being There or, especially, Galaxy Quest as being Mistaken Identity plots; but as soon as I saw the titles, I knew they were. I suppose it's because I associate the genre most specifically with North by Northwest.

Thanks again for being prolific with all your advice, research and thoughts!

N by NW is one of my favourite screenplays from a study perspective. What I particularly love about it is the way that every reasonable step Roger takes to clear himself actually lands him further in the brown stuff.

I guess The Big Lebowski kicks off as a Mistaken Identity plot, before going off on its own unique trajectory.

And maybe The Hudsucker Proxy too? Not necessarily Mistaken Identity as such, but Norville doesn't turn out to be quite the hapless patsy that Mussberger expects him to be.

Thanks for the post Scott!

DAVE is a great example, too.

Does "While You Were Sleeping" count? It's a romantic comedy where the chief heroine, Lucy (Sandra Bullock) is MISTAKEN for a man's fiance, then while he's in a coma, she befriends his family and ends up falling in love with the man's brother.
