I find it somewhat fascinating that more and more movies are not being made available to critics, like Street Fighter. Add that to the fact that a slew of newspapers are canning their A&E staffs in order to keep their publications afloat.

The studios will finally win! No voices in the wilderness to bag on their billion dollar commodities!

(I must lose this bitterness, Scott... guess I'm still smarting from yesterday's "remake" post...)

Jeff, as I noted yesterday, a screenwriter somehow has to learn to handle all the crap that happens, both directly (e.g., bad agents, dim executives, greenlit movies getting scuttled) and indirectly (e.g., remakes, remakes, and more remakes). Every writer has to figure that out for themselves. For instance, if you compliment William Goldman on his career as a screenwriter, he is more than likely going to correct you by saying, "I'm not a screenwriter. I'm a novelist." He calls himself a novelist in part because he has written novels (Marathon Man, The Princess Bride), but also because in his own mind, that means he doesn't have to rely on Hwood, screenwriting, and all the bitter fruit screenwriters have to eat on a daily basis.

Of course, the big fat paychecks help sweeten the bitter fruit!
