"What is an artist? A provincial who finds himself somewhere between a physical reality and a metaphysical one.... It’s this in-between that I’m calling a province, this frontier country between the tangible world and the intangible one—which is really the realm of the artist.”
Fellini

This picture is one of my favorite cities to visit in Fellini's province. In fact, I've had the DVD in my 'on deck' pile for a week now.

John, that's a great quote from Fellini. Are you a Bunuel fan?

Huge, huge...That Obscure Object of Desire is one of my all-time favorites. What's great about Fellini and Bunuel is the sense of play they bring to what they do.

Also a little ot, but we've been kicking around Jung a little and as I was watching the Grapes of Wrath yesterday, I couldn't help but notice that Tom Joad's "I'll be there" monologue is pure collective unconscious...

I've been reading a lot of Jung lately. Easy to see how Joseph Campbell was so influenced by Jung.

Re That Obscure Object of Desire: Check back on 2/3/09. It's scheduled to be that day's Daily Dialogue.
