Chronicles of Riddick (2004) Writers: Ken & Jim Wheat (characters), David Twohy (written by) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16RdEtQL9EQ On the prison planet of Crematoria, Riddick has located a young woman he thought he left safely hidden away five years earlier. He finds Jack (now called Kyra) being roughed up by the prison guards. (Kyra fights a losing battle with several guards, eventually ending up in a choke hold.) RIDDICK: I don't think she likes being touched. I'd take my wounded and go while you still can. (Guards release Kyra and turn toward Riddick.) SLAM GUARD: Is there a name for this private little world of yours? Huh? What happens there when we don't just run away? You'll kill us? With a soup cup? RIDDICK: Tea, actually. SLAM GUARD: Whuzzat? RIDDICK: I'll kill you with my tea cup. (Riddick places the metal cup on a nearby stone. The guards look at each other, then the Slam Guard huddles with Smernov.) SMERNOV: You know the rule. They aren't dead if they're still on the books. (Slam Guard draws his knife and goes for Riddick, but Riddick hammers the rim of the cup against the rock, splitting the metal, then drives the cup into the guard's chest and twists. The Slam Guard falls dead to the floor. Smernov and Petrov back away.) SMERNOV: Come on. (Riddick bends down and picks up a tin can key, shows it to Smernov, then places it exactly where he had placed the tea cup. Smernov and Petrov hesitate, then quickly exit the cell with a body.) Dialog on Dialog: In this second installment of the Riddick franchise, what's notable in this exchange is the change in Riddick's approach. Throughout the first film and thus far into the second, Riddick has been a character of action and violence to achieve his ends. However, in this exchange, he shifts to using psychology rather than brawn. The tiny size of the sardine can key provides a comic moment when the remaining guards back down, uncertain if Riddick can actually carry through on his implied threat.

The Pink Panther (1963) Writers: Maurice Richlin, Blake Edwards https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5sYuuD7ixA GEORGE: Then, when I was thrown out of college, I made up my mind. I decided to, uh, live a little. I knew if I continued my academic endeavors I could depend upon that check of yours every month. You know what I did? I took a plush Hollywood apartment, surrounded myself with all the advantages of a wealthy bachelor, then I sent you reports of a brilliant academic career. CHARLES: Well, I suppose a certain amount of dishonesty is bound to beget a certain amount of dishonesty. (Inspector Clouseau arrives at the jail and, after momentarily being waylaid, enters the Littons' cell.) CLOUSEAU: Good morning, gentlemen. CHARLES: Good morning, Inspector. GEORGE: Ah, good morning, Inspector. CHARLES: Guillotine all sharp and shiny? CLOUSEAU: Just thought you'd like to know the trial is all set for tomorrow morning. It shouldn't take too long. CHARLES: Well, that sounds encouraging. CLOUSEAU: Yes, it's encouraging for me, but, uh, bad for you. GEORGE: Have some coffee, Inspector. CLOUSEAU: You know, you two could save yourselves a lot of trouble if you would tell me where the jewel is. CHARLES: Take in some of that porridge, Inspector, it's guaranteed good for sleuthing. CLOUSEAU: You refuse to cooperate, huh? GEORGE: We've offered you porridge and coffee, it's all that's left. CLOUSEAU: Well, I'm glad you are enjoying yourselves, because you're going to be here for the next twenty years. Dialog on Dialog: It seems that Inspector Clouseau has finally gotten the upper hand on Sir Charles Litton and his nephew George. In this jail cell scene, Clouseau tries to pressure the thieves one last time to reveal where the famed Pink Panther diamond is hidden by threatening a long prison sentence, but Clouseau's natural clumsiness yet again robs him of moment of triumph. In Blake Edwards' films, triumph is often fleeting and the characters' foibles are often both their strengths and their weaknesses.
