Many moons ago I was fortunate to have a couple creative writing teachers who pushed the virtues of good writing practice: writing, reading, writing, writing, writing, reading, writing…. They also tried to sell us the idea of failure was an option in the case of writing. I took from it that one needs to write regularly and once you get over the fear of failure you are “free” to write as you wish. It seems my teacher’s math followed the same equations as yours. While I’m far from being an expert, I can offer one slight variation to the write daily. Mr. C used to assign daily story goals. His mantra was to engage our story daily through writing or thought. If we wrote, 250 words; if we dreamed, one summary paragraph. But we wrote. He knew our young minds were not predisposed on class. And this was back when computers spit out tape with holes in it. But it still holds true today. I’m just getting back into writing after a 30 year hiatus. I’d been looking for glimpses of my youth through the oceans of online writing advice/guides/instruction and believe GITS is a good place to follow. Thanks, Scott, for a great site.
