My initials thoughts on the scene-by-scene breakdown of Prisoners: It's interesting how the story pivots its narrative point of attack. It starts off with Keller's family, then with the children's disappearance, switches to Loki. From that point on, it goes back and forth, then expands eventually to include the perspective of the kidnapped girls. It's a lot to handle, especially when there is action going on concurrently in all of the subplots, but it really helps to build a sense of pace and tension. I was also struck by how well-constructed the narrative is, a lot of twists and turns, setups and payoffs, anchored by the psychological journey of both Keller and Loki. The script is long -- 139 pages. The movie even longer: Take out 6 minutes for credits and it's 147 minutes. But the movie did not drag for me at all as I was completely caught up in the thriller aspect -- kidnapping, fate of the girls -- as well as all of the drama involving the impact of the kidnapping on the major players in the story.
