As a cross genre movie between horror and science fiction, Alien is also very much the legitimate child of its generation. The 70's, with its downward spinning economy and anxiety for the future made those genre a relief to a population in need of escaping the dull reality and prospect of their lives. Both genres thrived and Alien had the right amount of futurism and darkness to please always larger audiences.
