In another section of this interview with Goyer, David mentions that he writes a 30 -40 pg outline. My guess is he means a treatment. Anyhow guessing doesnt help. And it would be helpful to know EXACTLY what he puts into this outline. Any suggestions for contacting him? I haven't found any publicist or fan mail info online. Does UCLA have contact info?

H, I can't answer for Goyer, but in the past, I've typically worked off outlines that ranged from 20-40 pages single-spaced.

What does it look like?

Work up the story -- using 3x5 index cards -- until I feel it hangs together.

Then take each card and transfer that info into a Word file...
Scene by scene.

Each scene includes a lot of information:

Location, characters involved, what type of scene it is, what's the point of the scene, beginning-middle-end.

And if there's any dialogue which has suggested itself, I put that down.

I'll generally manage to track what's going on 'underneath' the scene (the Internal World of the story) and how the scene affects that.

Basically as much info as I've developed through brainstorming, character development, and plotting.
Put all it there in each scene.

That's why the outline can be so long, reflects the amount of time spent in prep-writing.
