Oh, for heaven's sake, just reading this has me in tears. It's as bad good as "Up". Of course, it's Tom Hanks' delivery that really makes it (and I'm hearing that as I read it) - but then he is amazing.

And the amazing thing is, Steve, three A-list screenwriters took a crack at adapting Forrest Gump before Eric Roth nailed it by focusing on one major subplot: The Forrest-Jenny relationship. The other three barely touched on it. Can you imagine the movie WITHOUT that storyline to (A) tie it all together from a plot perspective and (B) provide an emotional touchstone throughout the narrative? This scene provides the culmination of that subplot with a wonderful denouement of Forrest with his son at the bus stop, the first day of school.
