to me back to when I was a kid running around like a rebel causing trouble wherever I could find it.

When I watched Les Mistons, it brought to mind Summer of 42 and especially Stand By Me. Any other film references come to mind?

The Sandlot (1993)

The Sandlot. Good call. I remember that movie well and its backstory. The writer-director is David Mickey Evans. He had written a spec script called "Radio Flyer" that sold for pretty good money and he was attached to direct. But as I recall, he was dropped after the first week or so of production, and they brought in veteran director Richard "Dick" Donner to direct the movie. So the success of The Sandlot and the fact that Evans got to direct it must have been very sweet for him. He's gone on to write and direct a number of projects including Ace Ventura Jr..
