Okay, maybe the dumbest yet, DSI!

I saw that article! Honestly, I think the future of technological development is in the so-called "developing countries," I keep seeing TEDTalks where interesting, simple solutions came out of areas like India and Africa. New ways of designing houses, chemical toilets, water treatment, education, etc... given enough time, I think we'll see a parallel societal evolution with the developed world having to adapt to the new guys. I think that might actually be helpful in the transition to a Type I society, the fact that the new norm would have to be agreed upon rather than just being manifest destiny or just American standards spreading. It's also extremely helpful to know how to use totally natural resources for when we go off-world, be able to sustainably continue civilization without mining and destroying the new landscapes. Of course, that's not a particularly dramatic story, at best it's backstory for a sci-fi project I'm working on.
