SCENE 15
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
A packed suitcase stands in the corner. In the closet hangs only a white dress. Shiva sits at her desk near the window. Her face tells us she’s having a hard time. Her shoulders are tense. She tears up a handwritten letter. The pieces end up onto the floor. Shiva stares outside the window. Clouds hide half of the new moon. Moment later, she opens up her laptop and starts tapping the keys.
TEXT: Dear Michael, I’m sorry I stood you up. Really really sorry!
Shiva sighs. This is way more difficult than she had thought. She continues.
TEXT: It’s not you. I was scared I was about to make the biggest mistake in my life.
Shiva thinks her text over. She decides that honesty works the best in this case.
TEXT: I was afraid we were both making a huge mistake. We’ve only been dating for half a year. We are still very young and…(Shiva thinks) I want to go to college.
Shiva stops. A tiny smile shifts her mood. College. She’s looking forward to go to college.
TEXT: I love you but I’m too young to be cooped up in a marriage, so are you. I want to have fun, go to college and meet other people. I want to experience life.
Shiva starts to loosen up. Her shoulders feel lighter.
TEXT: I know you’re hurt right now but in a few years from now you’ll be glad that we didn’t go through with this crazy plan and laugh about it. We’re both young. And when you meet the right person one day, you’ll know it and she’ll know it. I love you but I know I’m not the one for you.
Shiva stops. She feels good about her decision.
TEXT: I’m sorry I let you down. Shiva.
Shiva presses the send button and she stares out of the window. The new moon is in full sight.
