In the lecture scene I was wondering why John doesn't suggest that even human children can be dangerous or turn out to be dangerous. Having a robot is really no different. If the kid breaks the law, you deal with them the same as a human. It's not like he has super powers. Anyway it's wonderful that a scene can evoke that kind of thought. It's certainly something to go for. I don't know if you can make that happen or maybe let it evolve.

I just watched the pilot last night. Great work. I'm really excited to see something like this on network TV. What are your thoughts on getting picked up by a broadcast network? As I understand, shows on cable have more freedom to be edgier. Did you encounter any resistance from the network as far as censoring or sensitive content? Loved the pilot. I'm looking forward to the rest of the show.

That was actually dialogue that was in the earliest draft. He said something to the effect of, "You have two sons, you raise them both the same. One turns out to be a doctor and the other a mass murderer. There are no guarantees with any human child because of the variables that are beyond our control." We cut it for time but I think a similar thing comes up at least once or twice more throughout the season.

Thank you! I said early on that I thought it could be a big broadcast network show because even though it trafficked in some cable themes it didn't do it with a cable toolbox (sex, language, etc). I never really saw an edgier version of this, but I think on cable we would have been allowed to hold our cards back a little more and allow things to be more ambiguous. Or to draw out the mystery. The network has been great in allowing us the content we want to explore but we have had to go for broke in our storytelling more than we would with a small, niche audience.
