Thanks for the "spotlight" on Julie Gray's blog site, Scott Myers. I got here from the most recent link, Billy Mernit posted on his "Living the Romantic Comedy" blog site. I read Billy's weekly posts pretty regularly and generally check out his links.

I think I've visited "The Rouge Wave" a couple times before, but I never fully realized the cool place Julie has in the spec. script ecosystem. Will definatley give her site more attention now...

Would have LOVED to have been you in '97 getting to work with Jennifer Love Hewitt. I've been trying, very unsucessfully I might add, for several years to get about 5 specs I've written to her for her consideration. Unfortunately, I think she's kinda unreacible right now, with her CBS series "Ghost Whisperer" and her engagement to actor Ross McCall.

Currently I have 9 specs I'm trying to sell, and I'm just getting started on another. Through a recomendation from someone in the industry I now have a professional reader reading my specs., so (hopefully) the sellabilty of my spec. material is improving...

Anyway, after reading many of you blog posts, Scott Myer, I must say I am very impressed with your content. I like what you have to say.

Hey, E.C. I got to know Billy Mernit through UCLA Extension's Writers' Studio program, a series of 4-day workshops on creative writing and screenwriting. I believe Billy has taught at them for 10 or more years; comparatively I'm a piker, having only done 3. I'll be back this year - info here.

Re script consultations: There are a lot of people offering services nowadays, so it's best to check their professional credentials. That's why Julie's operation "The Script Department" is impressive. I looked into all their readers' backgrounds, each one solid.

Re all the scripts you've written: I'm reminded of a session I attended years ago where Larry Kasdan was a featured speaker. He said that he had written 10 scripts on spec before he sold something. What if he'd decided at script number nine to pack it in? How would Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back looked without Kasdan's involvement. No Body Heat, The Big Chill, The Bodyguard.

Fortunately Kasdan wrote that 10th script. A testament to persistence. And his obvious talent, of course.
