I would be interested in learning at what points in Mickey's life prior to Extant was he pursuing representation, and what he may have learned from that process.

I have been sending out query letters for probably eight years or so. I waited until I was a semi-finalist in the Nicholl Fellowship before I really started swinging for the fence and I got very few bites from that round. In the years since I must have sent out a couple hundred query letters and never received a single response. Eventually I just stopped and focused on the contests again and making my own stuff. I went to a writer's panel at Wonder-Con a couple of years ago and a tv writer said, "If you're not getting interest it's because your sample isn't good enough." So I took that to heart and just tried to write something better.
