Sounds to me like a perfect idea for a TV series already. Nice!

Talk about a cold case! I would have taken the case of a very damaged woman who undergoes an alternative genetic therapy to see what is behind her troublesome and dangerous behaviour. There it is discovered that she comes from generation after generation of murder and misery. We explore her childhood and that of her mother, grandfather and so on trying to get to the root of the series of unfortunate occurrences. That, or a courtroom drama where lawyers argue that evil is genetic and therefore try to exculpate a serial killer from his "wrongdoings" and put him on an experimental DNA extraction treatment... with deadly results.

This SORT of sounds like Assassin's Creed, but I don't know enough about Assassin's Creed to know for certain. From what I've picked up, the protagonist in the present is sort of time-travelling into his ancestors, sort of like quantum leap, and they're all assassins (so he has that skill too), and he's going to all these different time periods to find pieces to a puzzle.
