Hi Scott - I'm really excited about this. I'll be on vacation the 28th of June to July 6 - will be difficult to get the pages done each day. Do they have to be submitted that day or can I submit them post the day the of the challenge? Thanks! Tara Lee

That's fine, you can post writing exercises after your holiday, in fact up through the end of challenge: Monday, July 28, Midnight PDT.

Seven scene suggestions...cause seven's a good number or something: 1. Parent trying to convince a child under 10 to do something. 2. A scene of preparation for something other than battle (no swords, no guns, no bazookas). 3. A scene in an airplane cockpit, but no danger is threatening (no incoming missile, no terrorist on board, etc.). 4. A heist, but not in a bank, not with a vault / safe, and not in a museum. 5. A lover's quarrel where something gets broken. 6. An action scene involving a sport, not football. 7. A scene of tension or suspense set in either a library or a church.

I am up for this.

This is great! Some ideas: Write a scene where there's a switch in status between 2 characters. Write a scene where someone has an over-the-top emotional reaction to something (like a Jerry Maguire style flip-out). Write an interrogation scene that doesn't involve crime or an infidelity. Write a scene that involves a mistaken identity. Write a scene with a specific time deadline that doesn't involve a bomb. Write a scene where the characters don't want others nearby to hear what they're saying. Write a sex scene that isn't sexy. Write a scene with one character talking to an animal. Write a scene where obstacles get in the way of completing a normally easy task. Write a scene where characters do a complicated or difficult task but never talk about it.

Prompts: 1. A highly romantic suggestive heated love scene without any explicit sex detail or revealing nudity. 2. A tender romantic love scene that turns into a date rape. 3. A boss fires an employee, who has a no dialogue, but strong internal reaction, which is not sadness or regret. 4. A fired disgruntled employee who gets ultimate revenge without guns or violence. 5. A tear jerk meeting of two friends after being separated for years, with no dialogue or less than 10 words. 6. A character's moment of epiphany.

Perfect timing to get me back into writing now that my new baby is four months old and I'm adjusting to life with her in it! One question... Is the Plot course off the table then? It's not possible to complete ten challenges in time to take it. Or am I reading wrong?

I loved last year's scene challenge. I'm in for this one, Scott, thank you. - A scene a teenager or younger child walks in on mother/father having sex with their date - man drinking or gambling away his feelings while his wife is having a baby . Why is he there and not with his wife? - two couples in a hot air balloon. One starts flirting with the spouse of the other.

Good question re Core I: Plot. I can keep the course site open into August so challenge participants who want to take that class can have access to it after they complete their writing exercises.
