Awwww! That is depressing!:( Funny, I was always wondering about his mom but never thought of his dad. Scott, one thing I am itching to know though - is Emily Andy's mom? was that question ever answered?

I love these Pixar theories. And I think this is just one element of what makes them such great films. The amount of detail that goes into making each one of them. Even if you don't notice it in the film when you see it for the first time, you can continue to learn about the craft of storytelling as you find more and more stuff about them - peeling of the layers of the Pixar Onion.

Aarthi, that is one theory going around: That Emily is, indeed, Andy's mother. There's a link in the Huff Po article to an earlier article citing the evidence, such as it is, for that supposition. I'm supposed to do a workshop at next year's Austin Film Festival with Mary Coleman. I'll ask her.

Concur, Mark, especially since we know how much fun animators have inserting Easter eggs into the background of visuals. To wit: Here is a TotalFilm article featuring 50 Best Pixar Easter Eggs. So if they go to that much trouble for seemingly mundane things like including A-113, a classroom from Cal Arts, the number appearing in many Pixar movies, then one would have to think they would be even more intentional about things like no photos of a father on the walls of Andy's house. Of course, some of this could simply be the synchronicity of the creative process, stuff that churns up for no conscious reason on the part of the filmmakers, but in the end could resonate with some underlying aspects of the story. Always fun to ponder these things.

And a great excuse to pile up all my Pixar Blu Rays and watch them again! Thanks for the link! I'm pretty sure Aarthi will be in there already reading furiously!

Ah, thanks Scott - omg, do please update if you find out anything interesting, that workshop sounds super exciting - wish I could be there - look forward to hearing more about what pixar goodies you bring back!

hah! How well you know me, Mark, lol!!!:) That's the first thing I did - but I bet you did the exact same thing! C'mon, admit it!
