Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) adapted by Steve Kloves from the book by JK Rowling (as we all know) In this scene, Dumbledore, who knows that Hermione has been time traveling all year long to handle her school schedule, suggests she use her Time Turner for another purpose. Dumbledore: Mysterious thing, time. Powerful, and when meddled with, dangerous. Sirius Black is in the topmost cell of the dark tower. You know the laws, Miss Granger. You must not be seen, and you would do well, I feel, to return before this last chime. If not, the consequences are too ghastly to discuss. If you succeed tonight, more than one innocent life may be spared. Three turns, should do it, I think. [He starts to exit, turns back] Dumbledore: Oh, by the way. When in doubt, I find retracing my steps to be a wise place to begin. Good luck. [He exits] Ron: What the bloody hell was that all about? Dialogue on Dialogue: In one brief paragraph, Dumbledore tells Hermione how to use time travel to solve the problem at hand, explains to the audience how time travel works (that there are laws governing time travel, that her future self cannot be seen,that she will need to turn some device three times) and stays true to his character - as usual, he's going to manipulate the outcome he wants, while maintaining plausible deniability about it all. Much accomplished in a single dialogue passage.
