I LOVED that movie, "Predator." A couple years ago I wrote a supernatural western thriller entittled, "Cowboy Alien Diaries" in which I used "creature vision" when a pioneering family is encountering a supernatural visitor.

But I think it's in this movie where Arnold is going down a mud washout, then a long falls, and his words are, "Aww shit." Facing death, for me that's VERY FUNNY. But just listening to Arnold in just about any movie or commerical he's ever been in gets me to giggle. I mean how can you be govenor of state you can't even accurately pronounce?

Interesting backstory on this movie, E.C., that I heard from one of the film's producers Larry Gordon. For many years, the studios would assimilate the various script submissions on Friday for the "weekend read," where execs would ostensibly read the scripts, but in actuality most would only scan the script coverage and rely on lower-level execs to plow through the scripts. Each studio would have a Monday morning meeting at 10AM, so by noon, pretty much everyone in town knew what studios were interested in what scripts.

Larry Gordon had his underlings put together a "pass list," all the scripts each studio had passed on -- the list simply consisted of script title, writers, and a logline description of the premise.

Predator had gone around town - each studio passed. Larry found it on his pass list, read the premise -- "A band of soldiers heads into a remote jungle to take on the ultimate killing machine: an alien" -- and thought it had promise. So he met with the Thomas brothers (the screenwriters), optioned the script, had them do a rewrite, got Ah-nold attached, and the rest is history.

BTW, studios still have weekend reads, but nowadays with such a competitive market, they are prepped to evaluate and respond to a script any time and any day.
