I'm a fan of all these actors, and of Rom-Coms but for me this is one of those "In 2min and 22 sec I saw the trailer, and the movie." I'll wait for Redbox. And you're soooo right, recent Rom-Coms have been stale and formulaic. Like all movies that choose formula over character/story, they lack what Rom-Com fans pay money to experience: story/characters, charm, emotional journey, clever/smart, funny, the chance to suspend disbelief and heart. A veteran market researcher told Lindsay Doran, "Audiences don't care about an accomplishment unless it is shared with someone else." This is true for all movies, but sheesh(!) it should be a given for Rom-Coms, right? Where's the heart? http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/15/movies/lindsay-doran-examines-what-makes-films-satisfying.html?pagewanted=all

I will also watch this on demand...on netflix...if it shows up on there. Unless the stars align and my wife and I want to see a movie in a theater then we would probably put this around the top of the list over super hero's, horror, etc. Anything to relieve the stress! Haha. Who is the target audience? I'm not sure but I would love to know. Are there any sources online that provide genre market-research evidence? I would guess fans of these comedy stars would see it. Fans of W.H.A.S. might see it. Fans of SNL would probably see it.

Interesting question Scott. You're right in that this seems to have a niche audience. I'd see it in a heartbeat, which I came to conclude the second I heard "From the creators of Wet Hot American Summer," but I only know one other person who likes that movie as much as I do. It certainly seems like it will have obstacles in terms of sales, but I think it's success will largely hinge on what its makers deem successful. They must know that, barring a mass marketing scheme, this movie doesn't appeal to a wide audience, and my guess is they're OK with that. They probably don't expect to be No. 1 at the box office on opening weekend because their movie simply is not composed with that type of formula in mind. Of course, good reviews always help. If this movie wins over the critics it will likely win over dubious moviegoers as well.

The trailer - as a sketch on SNL or Funny or Die - is funny and on point. I don't know if there's enough story for a whole movie though. And it seems a little too self-aware. AIRPLANE! was an outrageous parody, but I never thought the characters of Ted and Elaine behaved as though they knew they were in a parody, if that makes sense.
