Wow! That is an amazing idea. Very deep (pun intended). With this setup I would take a different direction. What about if while on the bottom of the cave, something unexpected happens... on the surface? Sharp screams, radio silence, their guide ropes cut. Three explorers find themselves stranded under ground, days from the surface, without any knowledge of what happened to their party, or what is happening in the surface at all. They will have to find their way back up not knowing what they will find if they manage to escape.

Nice twist, Ricardo. What happened up top. Could increase the tension as they climb higher by hearing weird noises above ground. And what if whatever did whatever above ground... descends into the cave...

Being claustrophic, this kind of movie always works on me. There are a few films on the subject already, more or less good, more or less popular, such as The Descent, The Crypt or the James Cameron-produced Sanctum. The latter was made only because he wanted to test a new underwater 3D camera (intended for future Avatar sequels, I believe) and doesn't have much of a story. That's a shame since it looks amazing at times. So I would say that yes, the world is ready for a well-written, tense cave story :) I like Ricardo's take right above - the only way to safety is... down into the depths. Maybe the creature can't handle the pressure but then, the team members are so deep down that they face their own problems: increasing conflict amongst them, oxygen running low, unknown cave systems, one of them going mad/becoming dangerous... As for myself, I'm probably not going to use this idea but the part about the single protag (with a death wish) going deeper into the cave representing her unconscious psyche switched on my "a-HA!" lightbulb and I can definitely use that. Haunted houses are full of surprises... (Speaking of which, I loved the "Haunted Island" idea which is an easy-to-visualize movie - fun and scary, like Jurassic Park with ghosts, or going the opposite way and making a true horror film, creepy and deadly...)

That's something similar to my recently finished script. It's on Hunza's shamanism. Actually the last part of the film would be under the Fort Baltit where our protagonist and his team go out to find the truth about Shangrila, a place where he believes flow the fountain of youth, only to encounter with the unworldly creatures. I think still from another perspective, this idea of cavers would entice me to write an another script. Good work Scott.
