One other point to make is that the more poetry you write, the more poetic things you see; that is, poetry helps train your mind to think poetically. I have to think this is why Deliverance by James Dickey is such a stellar book--he was poet laureat at the time, and there isn't a spare word or image in that entire book. He expresses even the smallest detail in a glorious, poetic way, presumably because he was so used to thinking in those terms. Great blog, btw, love it.

"Poetry helps train your mind to think poetically." Great point. I mean how much better to think of "scene description" as "poetry"? And the more we describe the visuals and action in our scripts as poetry, the more we think like that. Thanks for that comment!
