Thanks Scott. It's awesome to see Lindsay's responses to our thoughts. It looks like her point is that the aim of her talk is not to provide a "how to" guide to storytelling, but to highlight some trends in successful movies for us to keep in mind when working on our scripts.

The whole "how to write a script" mentality has spawned a cottage industry among so-called screenwriting 'gurus'. Although some may succeed following that path, for most it's a slippery slope toward formulaic writing. Rather than asking "How," I recommend asking the other types of questions when crafting a story: Who, What, When, and especially Why. In fact, that sounds like the makings of a good blog post...
