I bought a DVD of this film partially because it won Best Picture, but also, as a silent film, it is instructive on how to write a scene without dialog.

Great idea, Gordon. Movies are, after all, a visual medium first and foremost. However as noted in the post, the style used in The Artist script does not reflect current style sensibilities, so make sure you balance out what you learn about scene construction with style as reflected in modern mainstream movie screenplays. Fortunately we have aggregated over 80 scripts, most of them representing a final draft, each a noteworthy movie from the last 5 years or so. Go here for those links.
