Subtext is innuendo (an indirect intimation about a person or thing, esp. of a disparaging or a derogatory nature); we just tend to think of innuendo as having a sexual nature to it.

As guys, we have to really concentrate on the subtext around us.

Listen to conversations around you or think of the way your significant other speaks with you and you’ll always hear subtext. “McDonald’s is fine for lunch” probably means a lot more than “a hamburger would be wonderful!”

Virginia Madsen, I heard, did this exact scene for her audition ... it wasn't one of the prepared scenes, they weren't expecting it, but when she showed up and read the other stuff, she requested a chance to do this scene from the script simply because she loved it so much.

They agreed, she did it and they loved it.

I haven't seen Sideways, but for this scene I will check it out. Right now I'm trying to craft my script to have these kind of beautiful subtext moments.
