The most memomrable line of "bad dialog" I can remember comes in the movie, "Predator." Dodge (Arnold Swartzenegger) says it when facing death, tumbling down a mudslide, about to go over the edge and possibly die.

Dodge (Arnold), "Aw shit!"

Would you want those to be your last words this side of eternity? It gets me to laugh every time.

"Pain don't hurt."

Dalton - ROADHOUSE

One of the best bad movies ever ...

Anything from Commando(1985) with Arnold Swartzenegger who plays John Matrix.

Matrix: Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?
Sully: That's right, Matrix. You did.
Matrix: I lied.

The General: Leave anything for us?
Matrix: Just bodies.

After snapping the bad guys neck whose sitting next to him on a plane he turns to the flight attendent and says-
Matrix: Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired.

So Ah-nold movies seem to be the first trend we're seeing. Does "I'll be back" from the first Terminator pay back some bad karma for The Governator?

I actually think that line from NOTTING HILL really works ... it also neatly states the character's theme ... I get why people may snark at it, but I think the writer - director knew it was a winner ...

Scott, Arh-nuld's mere scewed pronuciation of EVERYTHING lends himself to farce diaglog scrutiny. Those with the gold must have seen that, hence Arh-hulds transition to comedy vehicles like "Twins," "Junior," and "Jingle All the Way."

As far as the Julia Roberts line goes, I see where Scott's coming from -- especially in a romantic comedy where so much is predicated on sub-text. You've got to say it in veiled words and inuendo, not overtly. BUT in this case, Julia's the big star trying to show the smuck that's he's "in the game" I don't think it's such a bad line. So, I can't believe I'm saying this, I'm with Joshua on this one.

P.S.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Because they include two Julia Roberts lines in their list, and a third one referencing Julia Roberts, I suspect EW has a snark thing going about her, hence the inclusion of the Notting Hill line.
Joshua James at 2008-12-24 15:32:00:
Yeah, I think the line reference "Pretty Woman, but without the prostitution-thing" is actually a pretty good line ... so they're pretty off, considering how many bad lines there are (I mean, the lake on Naboo line is hard to top for terrible, you know).
