Every concept I've ever had has ended up on screen in one way or another. Every one.

This happened to me a couple times already, sometimes the concept, sometimes the execution, sometimes both... and it was actually strangely comforting. I took it to mean I was on the right path. But I don't just abandon a story, I take it apart, I figure out what I learned, what worked, what didn't, and see what I can salvage. It even frees you up to explore alternate ideas that you couldn't use the first time... if you're lucky, you can take the project apart like a Lego set and make something new and different from it. I've found that's happened to me and the results are more interesting, distinctive, and enjoyable to write than the project they came from.
