I understand purely original works, but since "Blue Jasmine" is essentially a retelling of "Streetcar Named Desire" I was wondering if you can explain what Academy rule makes a film like "Blue Jasmine" eligible as Best Original vs Best Adapted? How does that work?

When they meet Adapted, they have a pretty literal sense of that word. Since Allen did not use SND in any official way, rather perhaps inspired by it, that translates into an original script, not adapted.

Is Billy Ray sitting on his script Scott?

It's not the discretion of the writer to go public with a script as they don't own it, the studio does. That said, I will be posting something - hopefully this weekend - wherein we will make available a 2013 movie script in an exclusive arrangement with the writer-director and distribution company. Not Captain Phillips, however. I expect that script will become available pretty soon as it's likely to get nominated for awards.

Hi Scott, Thanks for the scripts! Do you have the pdf screenplays of 'Blue Jasmine' and 'Inside Llewyn Davis'? Those links didn't lead to the screenplays.

Neither of those scripts have been made public yet. As all other Coen brothers scripts have made it into the online universe, I would expect theirs to emerge. But not sure about Blue Jasmine as Woody Allen scripts are hard to find.
