One of the best endings in a film EVER. He's gone? You mean he's not dead? Where the hell is he? Carpenter takes us from place to place, room to room. Into the shadows, the dark corners. We don't see The Shape again, but we can hear him -- breathing. And that music, rising to a crescendo -- like a ringing in the ears after a bomb's gone off. Brilliant! My mother is a H-U-G-E "Halloween" fan (well, just parts I and II), and I'm glad she never shooed me out of the room to watch them (or any other movie, for that matter).
