[…] Two things. First, if we look at some of the titles of non-sequel, non-franchise movies that have fared well at the box office this year like World War Z, The Heat, Meet the Millers, The Conjuring, Identity Thief, Now You See Me, and This is the End, they have one thing in common: They are all high concept movies. Not to say high concept has ever gone away in Hollywood, but it does seem to me, at least anecdotally, to be front and center in the minds of The Suits at present. And what better way for a screenwriter to bathe in the commercial …read more […]

Bagsy Trading Places for mid December. All time favourite.
jbwilke at 2013-11-22 19:35:07:
This sounds like fun, Scott. I'll take WARGAMES!
bigjonslade at 2013-11-22 19:58:49:
Would you count BETTER OFF DEAD! as High Concept? I would, and I would be down with contributing that masterpiece.
simon at 2013-11-22 20:14:59:
Could I bagsy Blame It On Rio? If that's not high concept enough, then the lesser known Top Gun will have to do. Scott - Not sure how you figure World War Z as high concept - it seemed to me like a blatant rip off of 28 days later (feel free to put me right on that score, if I have it wrong?). @bigjohnslade - I had the movie poster of that in my bedroom in the 80's (I blagged some posters from the VHS rental shop), though I've never seen the film, haha.

Trading Places (1983)
Illimani at 2013-11-24 01:32:51:
Sorry, just saw that it's already taken. I will go with Jumpin' Jack Flash. Can't talk about the 80s without talking about Whoopi, right?
simon at 2013-11-24 11:53:33:
@Scott - Blame It on Rio was a joke dude! (obviously my humour didn't transfer to the page). No way I could write that up as an 80's classic (even if I did enjoy it). Top Gun was my real request Lol - I will email you a write up to both and you can take your pick.
