I can't say that I have done this part yet - but it's a good idea to know 1-2 generally and plot them a bit before writing. Given I write a vomit first draft without too much pre-writing, often the sub-plots reveal themselves as I write. I like that, in fact. But I will give some thought to 1-2 subplots for my story before I begin to write this time.
