Scott, thank you for all the advice and information posted here. It's been a great source of knowledge. My question isn't about the process, so much as what to do next. My screenplay got a review that blew my hair back. The Black List reader wrote "Tightly written action sequences coupled with witty banter make this the heir to the OCEAN'S 11 Franchise." And, that was just the first line. It's in the top lists and so on. Now what? Another review is pending. Should I wait, try to tweak it a little, start writing query letters? Maybe I should just bury my head in another screenplay I'm working on. I'm just a tad frustrated, and kind of lost on what's next for me.

Great idea, Scott! My question is this - do you have a favorite story of how someone attained screenwriting success? It could be because of the interesting background/profession s/he had before, or because of the unique way s/he broke in (e.g., Diablo Cody with her blog), or another factor. It can come from one of the tons of screenwriter interviews you've conducted on this site, or from someone that you think most people aren't aware of/isn't that heralded in the industry. Just curious.

Does this happen to anybody? You start formulating a story idea in your head. You get your characters, their flaws, the plot twists, then allegorical undertone, etc. Then when you're done you realize that's already a fully produced movie?!? This seems to be happening to me more and more. And it's pretty frustrating because right when you think you have something great you realize it's already been done before! Is there ever gonna be a time in human history where we just totally run out of story ideas because every single thing imaginable has already been done? I do wonder...

Hi I'll be in Vegas for a few weeks but am willing to drive to LA if there are any good 1 or 2 day screenwriting workshops. Please help me out. I'm a little green but have many ideas I need to get on paper.

Scott - it's awesome that you have asked us to post questions considering how much you have already answered on this site (like a million?) - didn't believe it was humanly possible and I commend you for that! anyway would love some insight on these below: • At what point do we know we are ready to put our work out there..?? Say you have finished a few scripts, three or four, as you recommend and are working on a few more? What would you say are some of the first things we should do after completing our final drafts (registering? competitions?.)? • Do we also need to write treatments and other accompanying material additionally before presenting it to say the blacklist or the Nichols..? Are there other materials we should be prepared with before heading out to shop them to agents, etc?? Thank you!

If someone has solicited a short script from you (30pgs), how much time should it take to get back to you? And when should you reach out to them if you haven't heard a response? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Is that review number 1? If so, you'll need to be patient and wait on review number 2. Then you will make it onto the newsletter where you might get some additional reads. It takes time, but in my experience it takes a little time for even a favorably reviewed script to generate some heat. Someone has to like the logline and be interested in the concept and genre. The favorable reviews will simply motivate them to actually read it. If I were you I'd move on to something else. If and when someone reads it and likes it, they will contact you. Consider the black list as a better alternative to cold queries. It's remarkably effective for what it is.

Also is there a 'best time' to put scripts on the market during the year?? Not sure if this has already been answered somewhere?

It was review two. The script is on the top lists now, and hopefully generating some level of interest. Once I got out of my own way I knocked out a solid twenty pages of a rewrite for another script. Today was good, I hit that state of flow and started concept work on an idea I've been kicking around for a while.
