In my story, the protagonist is searching for closure. she's a survivor of a terrible freak accident, looking for someone to blame, and a purpose for her survival. Unfortunately, she looks in all the wrong places, makes all the wrong decisions, and gets consumed by survivor's guilt and revenge.

The subtext of this question is a problem some writers have with writing passive Protagonists. There can be Protagonists who spend much of the story REACTING to events, witness George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life. However when writing a spec script, it's almost always advisable to make sure your Protagonist has a specific goal and they are in active pursuit of it.

Thanks, Scott, for your insights on this. I recently had a problem with exactly what you mention above - i.e. passive protagonist. I had to make a major revision and found that making her active made the story stronger and the protagonist and her journey much more interesting.
