Sounds like you have an interesting character and I'd love to know what the note was about the character that got you riled up. Your story reminded me of my recent short script and one of the notes I received asked “Why is there no conflict with their relationship?” the relationship in question was a lesbian (queer) couple. What they meant was why isn't there conflict with their sexuality, because there was conflict in their relationship. Prevailing wisdom is that in a LBGT story that there has to be conflict about their sexuality. However, not all people who identify as LBGT have that conflict & neither did my characters.

Unfortunately I can't discuss our character yet, but suffice to say, it is an issue that many people struggle with on a daily basis, but there's a definite gender divide. Thank you for sharing. Your story is actually very in line with my feelings. What seems like a non-issue for us - in your case, the character's sexuality - isn't to many people. But sadly, there are many people out there that don't understand that this is a reality. (There are still people out there that believe being LGBT is a choice.) At the end of the day, if your story is strong and the drama you're looking for plays, the other details like that will be forgotten by the reader - they will be too captivated with the rest of your awesome story. In our case, we're crafting some backstory and kicking everything up a notch. In the end, they probably won't even ask that question. And if they do, I genuinely hope it opens up more conversations about this issue.
