Waiting all week for this scene. Perfectly shot, written and performed. Bonasera goes from pleading to weeping, to demanding justice. The best thing about the scene is that the whole time you feel the sense of power from Don Corleone. The hand movements to Tom, (and in a more recent context it seems like he's also mentioning to "wrap it up" to Bonasera) and his measured speech. The other thing I love is that it establishes the Don as a smart man, as well as a powerful one. He knows that although the story is true, that Bonasera is framing this in a voice favorable to Corleone. The first paragraph above, mentioning honor and choosing to mention that the boyfriend was non Italian, seem to drive the association that the two men in the room, are different and have a different sense of values, morals than others. Corleone, (as I read the scene) was going to offer help anyway (as custom) but he makes sure to establish power, twist the knife and make Bonasera stew. When he does grant the wish, and dismisses him, he goes back to being straightforward and non-chalant with Tom. He's a man who didn't come to power by choice, he knows how to work people.
