Great write up Jason, loved this character (and the film) - so much anger against his fellow humans when there are so few of them left. I think Woody is great in these supporting roles, love watching him when he doesn't have the responsibility of carrying the movie (not that he is no good in other roles). I feel there are parallels with Abernathy in the Hunger Games in anotehr mentor role....a slightly more mellow and resgined to his fate Tallahassee...what you could imagine he would become if he could just find somewhere safe in Zombieland!

I think that the interesting thing about Woody's character is that he's never fleshed out to the point where he's over sympathetic. All of the scenes with him and Columbus, and especially Little Rock all serve the main rule for having him in the movie: He's a badass partner.
