Lest we forget, while the names have been changed to protect the guilty, pretty much everything that happened in this movie was based on real events, including Crowe's stint as a rock journalist for the Rolling Stone.
For me, there's a streak of sentimentality that runs thorough Almost Famous, particularly in its portrayal of Bangs, that prevents the movie from being truly great.
