I just watched the opening scene and loved it. The contrast in personality and manners between Rose and Allnut was depicted well. The scenes read like an excerpt from a book. Compared to nowadays norm the descriptions are a bit long, but, the description suits the spirit of the times and pulls me in the story well. In that time, documentaries and visual information about Africa, the indigenous tribe and the missionary world weren't as easy available as now. I guess the long descriptions were needed to establish the unknown world well.
