Good question, Steven. At the very least, it's proof that screenplay format and style is malleable, and it's secondary if the story works. Of course, we could conclude those only apply if you're someone like Cormac McCarthy, still advisable to understand and write within general confines of conventions. But my bottom line is you write your story the way that best tells your story. Should not feel constrained by supposed 'rules' of screenwriting.
