I planned to see Fruitvale Station last weekend, but saw The Way, Way Back instead. (Fruitvale this weekend). TWWB was outstanding. The story, the setting, everything was simple and lovely. But the characters were incredible, the best thing about it. It was one of those films that -- when I walked out -- made my heart burst with joy that screenwriting is the path I am choosing to follow. SEE IT.

TWWB is not only one of those movies that lifts you up, no matter what you journey through life may be, it's a deeply flawed script. Any of us who have basic training will be able to see the flaws. The point is, perfection in film is often the death of a story. Build your characters well enough and you fly above everything else. TWWB goes on my list of one of the best films this year, along with In The Loop, a film that seems to flaunt American film structure and is on 50 critic's lists of best films of 2013. As we move further along with #declareyourindepents, terrific opportunities open up. Along with those opportunities come new business models we'll be making up as we go along, testing and refining. At this point, it does seem that platform is critical. Pinterest is a great way for visual thinkers and writers to start platform. The board I've started is a community board, anybody can post to it (I think I might have to invite you, but that's easily done). When something is posted to the board, any other board on Pinterest with that film pinned shows up with the option to follow that person. It's a great way to network with VIPs, which would be our audience. It's a great way to spread the hastag #declareyourindependents and have it recognized by twitter. Another platform we can build is a blog or website. I came across this beauty today and found it so elegant I've got it on my browser tab. Here's hoping you'll check out this writer's web site and follow her inevitable success. She follows all the SOP of good blogging, which is giving to others, responding to others, and building an audience before going to market. http://bit.ly/1cN4KiU

Hmm... We're the Millers is a $37M production, released by WB and opening in 3,260 theaters. I'm not sure that it qualifies as being an independent film. I'll be seeing In a World... this weekend.

Thanks to the epic time delay in any movie reaching my small town, I shall be seeing Much Ado About Nothing. Two of my favourites, Whedon and Shakespeare, in one lovely package!
