I use "we see", sparingly. But I recently read an article saying that using it changes the subject of the sentence from the thing seen to "we", which I suppose is an interesting reason not to...

I was taught that "we see" is the sign of an amateur, so I just naturally avoid it as best I can. Still, I see it in a lot of produced scripts, so definitely an interesting topic ...

I'm with Erica. Any blog post these days (from the more seasoned writers to the newbies) that details top amateur mistakes will undoubtedly tell you to stay far far away from the "we see" lines. But I see them ALL THE TIME in produced scripts and you know what? Nearly every time I see it used, it works or me. Maybe the difference is these produced writers are better at picking their moments than the amateurs who seek to dictate every camera direction. So yeah, I'll freely admit it. I kind of really like the well-used "we see."

I have no problem using it .. but will always try to find another way. If there's something "we", the audience, needs to know/see/be aware of that the characters on-screen don't or aren't meant to notice, you've gotta call attention to it somehow. "We see..." is an easy way. But it's not the only way. The easy way: We see, easing around the building's corner, a SUITED MAN with a RIFLE .. raised. His back turned, Logan doesn't see him. Another way: A SUITED MAN, with a raised RIFLE, eases around the building's corner. Not that Logan notices. Oh, by the way, I pay little to no mind to those who write books but have no experience writing or selling screenplays who try to thwart 'expertise' as to what is and isn't acceptable. There are a gazillion opinions out there -- I tend to rely on my own gut to sort out what works best in a given situation. Besides, I've never heard/read from an actual professional screenwriter to steer clear of this semi-controversial "we see..." stuff, so....

Funny as a new screenwriter, I never even thought to use we see as I am simply writing the narrative of what people see - assuming people will see it on screen. I haven't found it necessary nor would I probably use it - rather develop good narrative voice - your reader will then see that without you mentioning "we see."
