As a motorsports fan (penning a racing drama of my own with another form of racing/competition serving as the story’s backdrop), I’m very interested in seeing what Ron Howard does with Peter Morgan’s screenplay. However I’m a bit wary... Numerous past films with racing as the backdrop/arena for the story (hoping desperately to fire on all cylinders and become a huge, “ROCKY’ like hit) have been ruined on several occasions by obvious bad choices which would compromise any drama. Laughter in the wrong places and the feeling of my own eyeballs rolling uncontrollably is hard to ignore at the Cineplex. My B.S. meter tells me the meddling studio producer/executives wanting to inject more ‘action’, ’suspense’ or ‘melodrama’ could very well be at the root of the cause. Obviously Mr. Howard has brought some fine film-making to the big screen during his career. From what I’ve been reading since RUSH has been in production, he’s traveled great lengths to create a movie that delivers in a way which should satisfy drama fans and racing fans alike. I’m certain Mr. Howard is aware the latter will no doubt be watching closely... with their own B.S. meters on high alert. I hope he has gotten it right. Can’t wait to see it!
