Wow, seeing the Stones when they were first starting out was amazing. Not so much that they look young - they do, and not so radical since time does that to you. But in Tom Wolfe terms, there on the Mike Douglas show was the cultural collision -- the old guard thinking the new order was silly, insubstantial and definitely weird and hard to understand. Another teenage fad on the order of the hula hoop. Within a few years, Mike(who was a genuine nice guy)and others of his age group were pretty much relegated to the sidelines or retired, and the Stones were skyrocketing into history. Hail, hail rock 'n roll.

The last clip is from the Tami Show, which was 50 years ago in Santa Monica. This is an absolute treasure of early 60s talent. The Stones, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, The Beach Boys, and many others. But the real show stopper is James Brown. He positively sizzles. Available on DVD. I own it.
