Just reading the title Little Miss Sunshine makes me smile. There's not many script scenes that have you laughing within a few lines but by the time I reach "completely different", I'm laughing out loud. Love the screenplay, completely fluid read, and equally love the film.

I remember the first time I saw that scene. First I was crying from laughter then my face and throat started hurting. Definitely the best climax in a comedy movie ever, not even close. I was talking about this movie with a friend who hasn't seen it. I was trying to explain why I loved. I finally realized that the reason was all of the characters felt real. They actions, words, and reactions reminded me of my family and people that I knew. Richard Hoover especially reminded me of my dad though on the surface they couldn't be more different. Even this scene which is very silly is grounded in reality. Everyone involved hesitates and looks embarrassed. I could imagine myself and my family looking exactly like that . I imagine that lots of people see themselves or loved in "Little Miss Sunshine" which is a great credit to the writer for creating such compelling characters

OMG how I love that scene. Just a gem as you say. Also love, just watched it again, Birdcage, the finale is fanf-intastic!

That was sooooooo good! One of my all-time favorite movies, as well. And I agree with all the comments above about them all being so real, Richard with his big dreams and inability to realize them, the son already disillusioned, and Olive going ahead with her dream while it's kinda too late for everyone else, the dysfunctional family dynamic that actually, we see in this scene, 'functions' just fine.... I have to say, I always recall that goofy red headband of Olive's. It's so - wrong for an adult woman's taste of 'beauty', but perfect for a girl who imagines it's just really SOMETHING.
