This brings up a question I've been wondering about all day while trapped at home nursing a sick dog and cruising TV. The majority of what I'm seeing on the ABC Family channel do not have children in them, and a lot of the language is bleeped out. The series have teenagers but a lot of action while being short on flat out violence and gore.
Looking over your spec script sales in the archives, most of what I see described as action comedy sound a whole bunch like family films with more action. Or maybe fantastical conflict would be a more appropriate description.
And what's right below this post? A scene from Little Miss Sunshine, one of the most universally appealing scripts/movies around. There's a little girl at the center of the film, but the concept and themes are adult.
What gives? What's a family film these days as genres are being bent?
