The Waterboy, The Longest Yard, Talladega Nights, Blades Of Glory and Dodgeball are the top 5 Sports Comedies of all-time with each grossing between $145 million and $195 million. Part of the reason I wrote a Sports Comedy script called The Mascot - scored a 9 on the Blacklist site. It is still available if any producers want to snatch it up :)

ROCKY and ROCKY BALBOA represent a great underdog story that easily transcends the story type. DODGEBALL is a great parody of sports movies and one of the best comedies I've ever seen - thanks for reminding me theurbanhobo! I usually can't relate to sports teams at all, but they can be a great source for jokes. :D

THE ROOKIE with Dennis Quaid... true story about pitcher Jim Morris and his ‘comeback’ of sorts allowing him a brief shining moment in the Major Leagues (1999-2000) after an injury thwarted his attempt at a career many years earlier. Screenplay by Mike Rich... very enjoyable film!

Problem with sports movies is that they tend to be provincial, which is why you'll never see a US studio make a movie about Cricket or a decent movie about Soccer. And that's a shame because there are some really good real-life stories in those two sports, for instance: The 48 hr ceasefire during the Nigerian Civil War in 1967 to allow fighting men to watch Pele play. The 1914 Christmas Day soccer game in no-mans land between German and British soldiers fighting in the trenches during WWI The 1932-33 "Bodyline" cricket Test matches between Australia and England which caused a *major* diplomatic incident.

I don't think any sport is off limits - including soccer! Victory, Stallone, Michael Caine, Pele, and a bunch of other soccer stars - and an excellent period piece set in WWII! One of my personal favorites, Men with Brooms! A sport spoof with curlers! And less about winning than personal integrity. Sport Is just this perfect matephor for life, it'll never be cold.
