I loved this film, but I must let you know Scott, this screenplay is not the original. Some of the scenes that were done weren't in the original. I can tell because I was there in the opening scene when the C130 landed. Worked with Capt. Dale Dye on ad-libbing the lines the VETERANS uttered in the beginning. I was the one with the jungle hat and guitar, the one that said "Well I'll be dipped in shit! New Meat!" If I wasn't in the military and only there for a short period, I probably would have landed a bigger role with Mr. Oliver Stone as he came up to me and stated "That was awesome. Can you do it again?" and I helped coach the other (my fellow soldiers from Clark AB) guys on how to deliver their lines. Also, the scene where Junior and Big Harold are talking while Sheen is digging his hole. Keith David, Corey Glover, Forrest Whitaker, and Reggie Johnson (Junior) all worked some extra lines into the film. I was with them when they did it, just watching and learning. It was funny. The thing about this film, that made it so authentic, was Stone had all of the actors, including extras like myself, set up in the jungle and sleep out there in the elements, dig our own foxholes, go out on patrol as if in live situations. I don't even think anyone noticed Johnny Depp was in the film, one of his first gigs. But Capt Dye, I took he and his wife to the base to get real food, met him years later on another set of something or other. This had a great cast and a great writer, not to mention, he turned out to be a great director too.

Ken, thanks for that personal insight into the production of a classic movie. What a treat for you to have been a part of that chapter in cinema history. As to the script, we take what is available online. And there is always value in comparing any draft of a script to the movie version to try to reverse engineer why the filmmakers made the choices they did, cutting this, adding that. Thanks again for your comments!
