Not a horror writer myself but I do appreciate a well-crafted, original horror premise. The Purge appears to have a very high concept behind it. I'm going to play devil's advocate and wonder if the concept itself is what's drawing audiences in rather than the fact that it's in the horror genre. After all, with the right marketing and a few tweaks, it could be a thriller or action or even a black comedy. Perhaps audiences are hungry for original ideas, something they haven't seen before, and would pay the price of admission no matter what the genre if the concept is interesting enough.

While the film had a low budget to make, I hear the marketing budget was huge. Driving all over LA I saw signs at every turn not knowing what the movie was even about..

Im not gonna lie, I saw the trailer for this and thought... "Now that is one of the best concepts for a movie I've heard of in a longtime."

Just curious as to what attributes put a film in the horror genre? Cool premise aside (which I hear wasn't exploited nearly enough), it looks like a typical home invasion movie, which I thought would come under the thriller/suspense or action/suspense header. I'm asking because I might have a script in hand that I can add a 'horror' tag to :)
